Families may enroll in the unique tutoring experiences at SHINE Together at any time if spots are available.  The program is open to K-12th graders and is currently limited to a maximum enrollment of 10 learners per day with tutor Mandy Spiczka.  The program may expand to up to 15 learners with two adults if more families are interested in enrolling.  Here are the current enrollment options:

TUESDAYS, WEDNESDAYS, AND/OR THURSDAYS:  Families may choose to enroll in SHINE Together for one, two, or three weekly drop-off days.  The program runs from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and families may sign up for a particular day of the week for the school year (September through May), summer (June through August), or continuing contract (ongoing, all year).  For the continuing contract, this program costs $220 per month; a $20 discount is offered for additional children from the same family ($200 per month).  The fee for families who choose to sign up for only the school year or summer is slightly more ($240 per month for one child, $220 per month for additional children).

TRIAL DAYS:  Prospective students may attend up to five trial days, subject to availability, before signing a contract.  Each trial day costs $60.  

EXTRA DROP-IN DAYS:  From time-to-time an enrolled family may wish to add extra drop-in days, subject to availability, in addition to the day(s) their child is already enrolled.  Each extra drop-in day costs $55 for families on continuous contract or $60 for families enrolled for only the school year or summer.

 

INDIVIDUAL TUTORING:  One-on-one tutoring is available for families who would like targeted help in a specific subject area (such as math, reading, writing, etc.).  This may be scheduled before or after SHINE Together group sessions for convenience if a child is enrolled in the group program.  This option is also available via Zoom.  Fees are hourly, and specific terms are worked out on an individual basis. 

EDUCATIONAL COACHING:  This option is available for families who would like guidance on creating and implementing personalized homeschooling plans, maintaining homeschooling records, selecting materials, supporting a child’s unique learning style/needs (including giftedness, special needs, multiple intelligences, etc.), monitoring progress, interpreting documents/test results, parenting techniques, etc.  This may be scheduled before or after SHINE Together group sessions for convenience if a child is enrolled in the group program.  This option is also available via Zoom/phone.  Fees are hourly, and specific terms are worked out on an individual basis, ranging from occasional support for the parent/guardian to a complete learning guide overseeing an interest-led education, regularly coaching both children and adults in a family. 

 

Fees include all in-person tutoring supplies such as paper, pencils, markers, colored pencils, rulers, scissors, craft supplies, books, etc.  Children may check out books/games/costumes/toys from the SHINE Together library and should return them in a timely manner.  Families will be asked to replace or pay for books/games/costumes/toys that are lost or damaged. 

Children will be outside at least part of every day, except during severe weather such as extreme temperatures, storm with lightning/thunder, tornado, strong winds, hail, etc.   Each family must provide:

 

• a lunch, snacks, and water bottle (fridge space and microwave are available)

• spare set of clothes (in case they get dirty or wet)

• appropriate outdoor gear/supplies for the season/weather, such as:

  • raincoat/pants/boots for rainy days

  • waterproof winter coat/pants/mittens/hat/boots for snowy days

  • sunscreen/insect repellent/sunhat/sunglasses if needed for the summer

  • sturdy footwear in summer (tennis shoes/sandals suitable for hiking—no flip flops)
